The conservative "Right" and my two cents

I realized not too long ago the political atmosphere of the area in which I live. I reside in the northern part of the Dallas metroplex and while at city hall of our local community I stood in line to pay for a birth certificate for William. No, we hadn't received one since he was born 14 months ago but now it is official, he was indeed born. Anyway, I stood there making small talk with a man in front of me. There is little else you can do while waiting for the government to process whatever it is they think they are processing (information usually-which explains the long waits). There was a small Hispanic woman at the counter trying to pay for, who-knows-what, as the whole dialogue was in Spanish and I don't habla espanol so well. The "gentleman" in front of me made the remark, something to the effect of, "I hate waiting in line behind someone who shouldn't even be here." He didn't make any effort to disguise his thoughts or whisper them to any degree. The woman behind me, after some hesitation said, "Ya got that right!" After which they commenced complaining about the loss of a local councilman's election as he would have gotten the job done.
I was surprised by how offended I was at the remarks these people were making. Who was to say that this woman wasn't here legally-I doubt she would be at city hall if she weren't. Now while my political views aren't such that I agree with the current immigration state of being, I felt that these two individuals were completely ignorant and misinformed on a great deal of things. I realized that if these two were politically motivated and voting in each little election, I had better do a more diligent job of at least neutralizing such votes. And that is my two cents.

curious... did you make any return comments to them regarding their inconsiderate social blunder? did you let them know how offensive they were being, not just to the hispanic lady at the counter?
